Emirates has announced that they from December 15, 2016, will start a daily service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The flight will be operated by a Boeing 777-200, which features 8 first class suites, 42 business class seats and 216 economy class seats.
The flight is set to depart Dubai at 3 am local time, and arrives in Fort Lauderdale at 10:25 local time. The return flight leaves Fort Lauderdale at 20:20, and arrives in Dubai at 19:40 the next day. This gives a flying time of about 14 hours.
It is kind of surprising that Fort Lauderdale is Emirates 2nd destination in Florida after Orlando, and that they are not flying in to Miami. I guess the reason for that (and the long ground stop in Fort Lauderdale) is Emirates partnership with JetBlue airways, as they have one of their hubs in Fort Lauderdale, and offers code-share and connecting flights to and from 26 destinations in the US and 19 in the Caribbean, Central and South America. Thereby the costumers flying with Emirates can easily make any connections to and from those destinations, so I guess it kind of makes sense.
Fort Lauderdale will be Emirates 11th destination in the USA, the other 10 destinations are: Orlando, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Washington, Huston, Dallas, San Francisco and Seattle.
