On the 3rd of November Egypt had to devalue the Egyptian Pound by 48% to meet IMF demands for a 13 billion dollar loan.
As you can see from the graph above, the value of one Egyptian Pound fell from 0.41463 dirhams to 0.23602 in a moment. The good news for this is that fares out of Cairo (and other Egyptian cities) are priced in Egyptian Pounds, and airlines have so far not adjusted their fares. This means there are some incredible fares to be found.
Both Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad all have great fares out of Egypt, below are some of the better ones I have found, searching for random dates in February.
This might be one of the better ones, 1st class from Cairo to Sydney with Qatar Airways, giving you a chance to experience 1st class on the A380 for around 8500 dirhams return.
Next I have found Cairo to Miami for around 3500 Dirhams in Business Class with Qatar Airways.
Then there is Emirates from Cairo to Forth Lauderdale in business class for around 6500 dirhams. Not as good as Qatar Airways, but still a very good price.
For about the same amount you can fly Etihad from Cairo to Melbourne, including return flights between Abu Dhabi and Melbourne on the Airbus A380:
And finally, Qatar airways again, this time to Perth for around 2500 dirhams each way.
Those are just some of the examples of great fares I could find, there are many more out there, so if you are willing to position to Cairo for the flight there are loads of fares that are basically cheaper in business or 1st class than economy flying out of the UAE.
If you have any plans to book any of those fares, I would recommend you to do so quickly, as I am sure that the airlines are busy right now changing the prices out of Egypt, so I would go ahead right now, even if your dates are not fixed yet, as change to the tickets will only be charged about 700 EGP, which is less than 200 dirhams.
