Dubai based low-cost operator Fly Dubai has introduced their new loyalty program ‘OPEN’.
As the first airline in the region, they seem to have launched a Fixed Value rewards programe, but I am not quite sure yet, as I don’t have any points with them, I am unable to verify this.
Anyways, Fly Dubai is Dubai’s 2nd largest operator, and operates a fleet of 52 Boeing 737-8, and with another 8 on order, in addition to 75 Boeing 737 MAX 8. They operate out of both Dubai Airport and Maktoum Airport, and offer cheap fares to loads of airports around the Middle East, India, north and central Africa and Europe.
The details of the rewards programme is as follows:
You earn at least one point for every US dollar spent on fares (excluding taxes), checked baggage, pre-ordered meals, extra legroom seats and inflight entertainment. In addition you earn extra miles if flying in Business Class, and certain (probably more unpopular) flight pay a higher amount of points than other flights.
FlyDubai is also partnering with certain companies to earn points with them, like car rental companies, hotel chains and so on, but this has not been launched yet. The only thing so far is a partnership with Dubai Islamic Bank for their creditcard. Also this is not launched yet, but you can sign up on their website to be notified as soon as the card is live.
The value of the points doesn’t seem to be quite fixed, but it seem like each point is worth in the area of 0.025 to 0.03 dirhams pr point. In other words, every 1000 points you earn will give you between 25 to 30 dirhams discount on purchases on FlyDubai. This is of course not much, and with the cheap fares that FlyDubai has it will take some time to earn rewards, but still an OK deal for those who fly a lot with them – any points are better than no points.
I will get back with more details about the rewards programme and the Dubai Islamic Bank co-branded creditcard as soon as I get more details.
